An Open Book

Writer: Melissa SimpsonMelissa Simpson

”You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.I will be found by you,’ declares the Lord.” Jeremiah 29:13-14

A lot of ‘great people’ tend to be a bit reclusive. I suppose they have to be in order to have a little privacy. The reason people want to be private is sometimes they have something they want to hide, like: a lack of confidence; a weakness; diminishing skills; or fading beauty. Great people, like all of us, do not want to be put to shame or embarrassed. God has no such concerns. He desires everyone to know Him. He is literally an open book, but we have to read it (Him) to know Him. If we sincerely seek Him, we will find He is willing to reveal Himself, because…

GOD IS TRANSPARENT…

”The Lord confides in those who fear Him; He makes His covenant known to them.” Psalm 25:14

In Genesis 3, the serpent used this tactic with Eve - God, due to fear or insecurity, was holding out on them because He did not want them to know the ‘real truth’. Sadly, Adam and Eve took the bait and sin ensued. What is true is the Lord loves us so much that He wants us to know Him and His ways, not only because He is good, but it is for our good. Knowing God is our only hope to be safe, secure and free from sin and its dreadfully ‘grave’ consequences. Regrettably, people today believe the lie, thinking God is too secretive to be known. But God does want to be known. Jesus proves this in Luke 24:45, when, ‘He opened the disciples minds so they could understand the scriptures’. He is still opening minds to know God today.

…AND TRUSTWORTHY.

”Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures through all generations. The Lord is trustworthy in all He promises and faithful in all He does.” Psalm 145:13

If God says it, He does it. This is why we can trust Him - His words and His actions always align. Jesus said, ‘By their fruit you will recognize them. In other words, ‘talk is cheap’, but a person’s actions speak volumes. Jesus’ death on the cross authenticates and attests that God’s Word is true, therefore proving He is worthy of trust. He keeps His Word, even to the death. Our Father promises to come through for us, and He always will.
