God's Word is First

”These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts.

Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home…” Deuteronomy 6:6-7

Your first language is called your ‘mother tongue’. You eventually became fluent, speaking it with ease. But what if we were to learn a third language - the ‘God language’? The ‘God language’ is spoken by people who pray, give praise to God, read His Word and then speak it over their lives and issues. Oh, they also go to church. These are the people who grow to have a sense of ease with God, developing a fluency and a faith that the Word of God…

”…You have exalted above all things your name and your word.” Psalm 138:2

Most of us have heard the idiom, ‘A person is only as good as their word.’ This could certainly be said of Jesus. In fact, John 1:1 says, ‘In the beginning was the word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.’ His name and His Word are one and the same. What this means for us today, is all God says in the entire Bible is exactly who He is and that we can completely and fully trust Him, because He says so. This is why, for me, all of the Bible is reliable and above every philosophy, idea, thought and belief that mankind has come up with throughout the ages. Now, some of the words in the Bible may not always compute in our ‘earth based’ brains and that they can seem irrational or illogical, but I would offer up this thought - God’s Word transcends (above) our human rationale and logic.

”Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” II Peter 1:20-21

The Bible was penned by people, but it was inspired by God. He is the author of The Word, making Him the sole authority. This is why God’s Word is above man’s thoughts and ‘wisdom’. He is the authority and the only reliable source of truth. But there is one thing left out of the Bible which angers a lot of people - it is their opinion.
