”For we live by faith, not by sight.” II Corinthians 5:7
Many times it’s been said, ‘I’ll believe it, when I see it’! Yet Paul says we are to live by faith, not by sight. Seeing is great, but faith is far better - it just needs to know, not see. Hebrews 11:1 says, ‘Faith is the confidence of what we hope for and the assurance about what we do not see.’ Because of God, faith is being certain of good happening in the future. What competes with seeing good (faith always sees good) for our future are the facts (events) of the past and the limitations of our realities. These cause fears and doubts (not good). When we know God’s word and will, our faith grows and we will see God’s hand at work, creating more:
CONFIDENCE TO…
”Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” Hebrews 11:1
To have ‘confidence’, means to stand under the support of God’s covering. But without confidence, we run to other people, places or things for safety. Faith in God is how we stand under Him. It is being persuaded that He is the only covering and where we are completely safe. The basis for confidence (faith / persuasion) is: in God, our Creator, and the one who rewards us; in Christ, as our Messiah, and the one who saves us; and in The Holy Spirit, as our Counselor, and the one who guides and protects us. God, The Trinity, is our genuine support system and who we have as our real assurance for what we can not know or see. Because we put our trust in God, we’ll be covered in the future.
…BEING COMMENDED.
”This is what the ancients were commended for.” Hebrews 11:2
To be ‘commended’ means a ‘good report’ is spoken about you. This good report is from God - ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! (Matthew 25:21). When someone speaks well of us, it not only feels good, but inspires us with the confidence to do even better (we love doing what we’re good at). The Ancients (heroes of the faith) mentioned, were honored for putting their faith (trust, hope, confidence) in the Lord. By putting our faith in God we will join the Ancients and be spoken well of by God for our faith.
