In Times Of Turmoil

"But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days." II Timothy 3:1

Who isn't a little concerned with what is going on in the world today? It can be scary for the most fervent followers of Christ. Sometimes I wonder just how much longer our planet can last. But God is not at all uneasy about how it ends. Proverbs 21:30 states, 'There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the Lord.' Given this, we should want in on this wisdom, insight and plan so we can be on the winning team. To do this we must be people:

WHO PRAY…

"Jesus told His disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up." Luke 18:1

Imagine a universe where there was no such thing as a higher being (GOD), and therefore, no such thing as prayer. What would we do if we did not know what to do? How would we cope with chaos or calamity? To whom could we turn to for answers or hope? Thank God (literally), we do not have to imagine such a world. The truth is, we do have one who is higher than all - our all knowing, all powerful and always present Lord and Savior. Now, what does this say about us if we do not utilize God's power, proficiency and presence through prayer? What it might say is we are either fools, or that we have no faith in God's ability or desire to help. But God is power and love. The more we pray, the less likely it is that we give up.

…AND PERSIST.

"But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded." II Chronicles 15:7

Many years ago, Israel was in similar times as we are in - 'great turmoil'. But God sent a prophet to Asa, king of Judah and encouraged him to seek the Lord and He will be found by you. He also told him to be strong and do not give up - easier said than done. All the devil wants is for us to just quit: reading the Word; praying; serving; giving; going to church… Just stop it and he wins. But, if we don't give up on God we win. In dealing with mankind, God has tied His hands because of our free will. But if we persist in prayer, His power is no longer limited in our lives.
