Never Forgotten

Writer: Melissa SimpsonMelissa Simpson

”…When all goes well with you, remember me and show me kindness; mention me to Pharaoh and get me out of this prison. The chief cupbearer…, did not remember Joseph; he forgot him.” Genesis 40:14; 23

Ever felt like no-one sees you or cares about you and that you have been forgotten? Joseph felt this way. We could also include Job, David, Elijah - in fact, most of our ‘heroes’ of the Bible have felt forgotten. We usually feel like this in the hard times. In good times, we feel great, but in difficult times we can feel deserted. Even though we may feel forgotten or abandoned, it is never, I repeat, never true. God will never leave us or forsake us, at any time or for any reason. We are the apple of His eye, and He is…

ALWAYS ATTENTIVE…

”The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are attentive to their cry.” Psalm 34:15

‘Righteous’ refers to those who have chosen to follow God and look to Him for life. It does not mean those who are perfect. God is not looking for perfection, but for our direction - inclined to Him, His Word and His ways. ‘Attentive’ means to be open to, turned toward, or to be inclined to. Some people may turn away from us or turn on us. Not our God - He is always turned toward us to help, save and deliver. David said, in Psalm 88:2, ‘May my prayer come before you, turn your ear to my cry.’ This is exactly what we have been promised of God - He always sees, hears, and remembers us. We never go unnoticed.

…ALWAYS AVAILABLE.

”Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” Hebrews 4:16

God’s door is always open. But before Jesus died on the cross, the high priest could enter the holy of holies only one time a year to offer a sacrifice of atonement. And when he did enter, he did so very, very carefully. Now, we can enter God’s ‘office’ at any time, for any reason. With Jesus’ death, every obstacle to God was removed. This is why the veil was torn from the top (heaven) to the bottom (earth) - to show us that we can approach our Father without any hindrances, fears or any trepidation.
