The Faith To Obey

"…Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead." James 2:17

Belief is important because it begins in the mind with the proper understanding of who God is and what He can do. But belief can simply stay in our heads without making its way to our hands. This is why James 2:19 says, 'Faith without action (works) is dead and why even demons can, and do believe in God, and shudder. Belief by itself agrees with God - faith shifts belief into gear. We want to be OF those who believe in God and follow for…

HIS FAVOR…

"By faith Abel brought God a better offering than Cain did. By faith he was commended as righteous, when God spoke well of his offerings…" Hebrews 11:4a

Genesis 4:2 says, 'Abel kept flocks, Cain worked the soil.' So, each brought what they had to work with - what's the big deal? But Abel's offering was considered, 'by faith', better. In Genesis 4:3-4 it says, Cain brought 'SOME' fruits and Abel brought 'fat' portions from the firstborn of his flock. Why Abel's was better was this was not an ordinary offering. It was the first sacrifice recorded in the Bible. All through the O.T., people were instructed to bring animals for the shedding of blood to cover sin. The specifics of Abel's offering was exactly what God would accept for sin. God spoke well of Abel's offering because it was by faith and not just what he 'did' (his work). Cain's offering was not by faith but of works, his works - Unacceptable.

…LASTS FOREVER.

"… And by faith Abel still speaks, even though he is dead." Hebrews 11:4b

Abel was, in fact, the first person to be killed on earth. Cain's anger over Abel's offering speaks to the age old war of man's works versus the work of Christ on the cross. Hebrews 12:24 says, Jesus' blood speaks a better word than the offering (blood) of Abel. The reason for this is man's offerings are temporary and must be done over and over (from Abel to the cross). Once Jesus shed His blood for our sin, no more offerings are needed. He gave a better (stronger) offering, because it lasts for eternity. When we put our faith in Christ, we are forever forgiven by God. No longer do we trust in our works, we believe in His.
