If a poll was taken about the Promise Land, most people would want to go. A logical question would then be, where is it and how do I get there? We call it heaven. How we get there is up to God - the ruler over all creation. For Israel, it was the land God promised Abraham, His friend. And so after many years, they were about to enter the land. Standing in their way were many cities, like Jericho. Two spies were sent to Jericho where they met Rahab, a prostitute. She hid the spies and in return asked them to spare her when they took the city. She believed God was with them and they would be defeated. The spies agreed to save her on the condition she hang a scarlet cord out of her window.
LET IT BE AS YOU SAY…
”Agreed’, she replied. ‘Let it be as you say.’ So she sent them away… And she tied the scarlet cord in the window.” Joshua 2:21
Rahab knew she was no longer in charge of her future. That fate would fall to someone else. This is the 1st step to enter the Promise Land - humility. Next, Rahab agreed with their requirements. This is the 2nd step - trust. These are the same for us. The scarlet cord she hung symbolizes the blood of Jesus, shed for us all.
…SO WHAT DOES GOD SAY?
”All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” Romans 3:23-24
”The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23
The Promise Land (Heaven) awaits everyone who agrees with God’s verdict over their life. Just like Rahab, we don’t control our future and must trust our lives to another - God. This is the reason Jesus came to earth, died on a cross and rose from the dead - to offer us salvation for our sins. Romans 10:13 promises, ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’ Jesus is the Promise for our land.
”Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6
