“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” John 10:10
Whether we recognize it, admit it or believe it, there’s an unseen force that hates us (a born in God’s image thing) and seeks to destroy us. David lived with unseen forces and ones he could see on the horizon. David did battle most of his life and often needed weapons. The best of David’s time was the sword of Goliath - The one that was designed to kill him, but the one he ended up using most of his life to bring victory for Israel and his God. There are many ‘weapons’ (drugs, alcohol, illness, anger, unforgiveness, lusts, etc.) the unseen forces (the thief) tries to use against us. Just like David, we can turn those ‘weapons’ around and use them for God’s glory and in… HIS POWER…
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28
Just as God was at work in David’s life, He is at work in our lives as well. Regardless of what we are battling, God will eventually, in His time, turn it around for our good. All we must do is trust in what we know - God is at work. The conditions for God working in our lives, is simply to love Him and desire to follow Him. If we do, then like David, we will not succumb to the pains and pressures of our battles. But when we’re in the fight, Satan wants us to think we are all alone. David was never alone and neither are we. …FOR HIS PURPOSE.
“For those God foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of His Son…” Romans 8:29
Whatever we believe life is all about, if it doesn’t include becoming like Jesus, we have missed God’s purpose for life. I Peter 2:21 says, ‘To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in His steps.’ God foreknew (before- hand) we would follow Jesus, so He predestined (pre-determined) to conduct and arrange our lives into conformity (along with) to the likeness (image / representation) of Jesus. Just how long this takes is entirely up to us.
“And those He predestined, He also called; those He called, He also justified; those He justified, He also glorified.” Romans 8:30
