"As He approached Jerusalem..., He wept over it and said, 'If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace - but not it is hidden from your eyes." Luke 19:41-42
Jesus wept over Jerusalem because they refused to believe He was he Messiah - the One who would bring them peace. Israel was waiting for the Messiah to save them. But Jesus wasn't it. They wanted a general to destroy the Romans and restore David's kingdom. Jesus didn't come to restore an earthly kingdom, but a personal kingdom in their hearts.
"...You did not recognize the time of God's coming to you." Luke 19:44
Things are similar today. Jesus weeps over the cities of America - people who need a Savior, just not the one God gave. And so, like Israel, Americans search for what they want. Which would be a 'god' who lets them do what they want, preferably without consequences and who makes them feel good about themselves. This is why Jesus is...
Hidden in plain sight...
"Jesus Himself came up and walked with them... But they were kept from recognizing Him." Luke 24:15-16
Jesus can be found everywhere in America. We can get the Bible on all our devices. Social media, movies, and T.V. series about Jesus are on demand. Podcasts and YouTube are filled with sermons about Him. If we want to know Jesus, He is certainly available to be known. If we don't want to know Him, He honors our choice, remaining unrecognizable to us.
But the answer to hidden hunger.
"...He took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they recognized Him." Luke 24:31
Over two billion people suffer from 'Hidden Hunger' - malnutrition caused by the lack of micronutrients. This is typically caused by the junk (processed) food people eat. The side effects of 'hidden hunger' are: stunted growth, poor mental acuity; compromised immune system and chronic disease. Spiritually speaking, Jesus is the Bread of Life, which was broken for us - the answer to our real hunger. But without Him, our spiritual immune system suffers. When we do come to Jesus, He brings us the life we want.
