Whatever Is Praiseworthy

"If anything is praiseworthy - think about such things." Philippians 4:8

There are many sights and sounds in life that cause knee - jerk reactions - it can't be helped. Some are so horrific or gross that we turn away instantly, and some compel us to stop in awe and wonder. But with all the things on earth (nature), nothing will stir a reaction like seeing the King of Kings and Lord of Lords on the day we meet Him face to face. Zechariah 14:9 says, 'The Lord will be King over the whole earth. On that day there will be one Lord, and His name the only name (that matters).' This may be why the angels Isaiah 6:3, 'Were calling out to one another: 'Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord Almighty'. Just the sight of God, and the angels must worship Him, which is good because…

IT SHOWS TRUE HUMILITY…

"He must become greater; I must become less." John 3:30

As far as we know, John the Baptist was the first man to declare Jesus the Son of God. His understanding of who Jesus was prompted him to make this statement, 'He must become greater; I must become less.' - this is the essence of worship. As we praise and thank Jesus for all He has done for us, we magnify Him, which then shrinks us. It removes us from our lofty place of pride and rightfully puts us where we belong - under His authority. To think about what is praiseworthy has to be about God - He is the only one worthy of our praise (appropriate adoration).

…AND GENUINE HONOR.

"The one who comes from above is above all; the one who is from the earth belongs to the earth, and speaks as one from the earth. The one who comes from heaven is above all." John 3:31

John the Baptist honored Jesus by declaring Him above all. Just as we must understand our place beneath His throne, we must also recognize His place over us. We do this in many ways, like: lifting our voices and hands in praise; bowing down; giving thanks; prayer; obedience; tithes and offerings; loving His Word; seeking His counsel, and repentance of sin. All of these are forms of worship - a complete and total lifestyle that honors God. There are two main reasons we worship God. First, He deserves all the glory, the other is it gives us a faith lift.
