Yes I Can Give

mark56397

God can talk to us.

There is a host of problems we have no issue seeking God’s counsel on - issues like: marriage; kids; thought life; forgiveness; our mouth; church attendance; serving, etc. - but money is off limits to God? Really, the one thing that determines, even dictates our lives, and we don’t want to hear God’s thoughts on it? That makes no cents. Maybe it is because tithes (10%) and offerings are measurable.

“No-one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.” Matthew 6:24

It was no coincidence that while teaching on masters, Jesus identified money as the competition with God for our devotion. Jesus knew the critical role money plays in our lives and the power the love of it can wield over the souls of God’s people. So, yes, we can give because…

It won't kill us.

“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this’, says the Lord Almighty, ‘and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.” Malachi 3:10

God asks for only 10% - not enough to make you rich if you keep it, nor is much that it sends you to the poor house for giving it. 10% is the perfect amount to test our heart and free us from the shackles of the love of money.

Gravity doesn’t care if we believe in it or agree with it. It is a universal law - we will fall. Tithing too is a spiritual law that doesn’t care if we believe in it or agree with it. Both laws are in effect without our consent.

“I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not cast their fruit,’ says the Lord Almighty.” Malachi 3:11

…It will bring life.

“Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.” Proverbs 3:9-10

Whatever we honor is put on top, at the head, or above everything else. It becomes #1. Solomon said when we honor God with (above) money, then He will bless us to overflowing - more than we could have had without Him. The when and then principle is how God works. When we obey Him in an area, then He will bless - trust is the key.

“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Luke 6:38
